What to consider before choosing your design

All too often it's easy to get carried away with design of your website without considering a crucial factor, who is your website for? You or your users? What is your websites purpose? This is the main factor, who is the site for, what you intend to achieve through the site for example, if the site is to attract new customers then you must 1st research your target audience, the geography and demographics of these people, there is simply no point designing a website with flash images and bright colours etc if you are trying to target an older audience.
